Really enjoyed wandering around here. Beautiful art in an amazing historic building. All for free entry! It's very close to Lime Street station so ideal if you have some time to spend either side of your journey to/from the city. The cafe was good too. We were lucky and found a parking space on the road outside (pay at the meter or by phone/internet) but otherwise you are looking at one of the city car parks if travelling by car.

The Walker Art Gallery - A stunning place where Art is brought to lifeWhat is the Walker Art Gallery? The Walker Art Gallery is an Art Gallery that is located in the heart of Liverpool. It is set in a beautiful historical building that holds numerous Exhibitions and displays that take place throughout the year.ExhibitionsPhotie Man: 50 Years of Tom WoodWho is Tom Wood?Tom Wood born in 1951 is a celebrated artist who has redefined the way that we think about photography in Britain. This Exhibition showcases work from his archive from the 1970s to the present day. There is a great variety of photographs on display from portraits to beautiful landscapes. Most of his work was made in Liverpool and Merseyside. He lived there from 1978 to 2003.The ExhibitionThis Exhibition was well presented in that each room within the Gallery represented a different decade of his work. You witnessed how he would take black and white photographs to which this then developed over time by using different cameras with colour. His photographs are spectacular in the level of detail. In addition, Tom created unique relationships with the people that he took photos with.It was also brilliantly executed with a range of issues that was exquisitely shown through his work. His work dealt with multiple issues from relationships, families, the night life, New Brighton, the markets, the ship yard, football and more.Over more the Exhibition was not just simply masses of photographs but it was also interesting and engaging with written information and video footage of his work. It truly brought his photography to life in awe-inspiring ways.HighlightsThe main highlights from the exhibition were as follows:Tom Wood’s Looking for Love series where he took intimate photos from the Chelsea Reach Nightclub in New Brighton. Through these photos you gained an insight of relationships between people that would meet at that nightclub.Another highlight was when he would take photos of people on bus journeys. This was done through his Bus Series ‘Zones All Of Peak’.In addition he conveyed the atmosphere of fans at football stadiums both at Goodison and Anfield grounds via his photos whilst attending matches.Entry and PricingEntry to the Photie Man exhibition requires you to book a time slot ticket online which you will need to pay too. Attendance to the collections at the gallery is free of charge. The prices for Photie Man – 50 Years of Tom Wood are as follows:Adult £9.00Concession £8.00Disabled Adult £8.00National Art Pass £4.50AdultNational Art Pass £4.00ConcessionChild 6-17 years £2.00Disabled Child £2.006-17 yearsDisabled Adult FREECompanionDisabled Child FREECompanionFor further price details for the exhibition then visit the Walker Art Gallery website.FacilitiesThe Art Gallery has a café that serves a good variety of sandwiches and cakes. They also offer a selection of hot and cold drinks. It is reasonably priced.Toilets are on site.AccessEntry to the Art Gallery is either by going up a number of stairs or via a ramp which is helpful for people who have mobility problems like me. Access to all floors is by using the lifts.ParkingThe Walker Art Gallery does not have its own designated car park however there is pay and display parking nearby. This is free for those whom have a Blue Badge. If you love looking at art and learning about artists in a interesting and engaging way inside a lovely historical building then the Walker Art Gallery is the place for you.

A truly wonderful art gallery, that contains an excellent selection of pre-raphaelite paintings. In addition the gallery has a really great selection of paintings ranging from the renaissance to contemporary works. The gallery also has a great selection of marble statuary and bronzes. If you require refreshment there is an excellent cafe and scrupulously clean toilets. There are regular special exhibitions, where entrance may be charged.

I took my 3 year old granddaughter there last week. The staff in the cafe were very helpful and brought food to my table. In the main gallery, one employee suggested room 7 as many pictures there had dogs and my 3 year old could focus on counting them - a brilliant tip. There is a fantastic room for children downstairs. Everywhere very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Carrot and lentil soup best ever. Will be returning

I went early Saturday morning, the entrance was a bit hard to find in-between the scaffolding, but that could not be helped. Got a ticket for the John Moores Exhibition, nice chat with the lady about the exhibition and off I went up that glorious staircase.I spent a long time just looking at the pictures and then picking out a favourite for the "People's favourite", made my choice and left to have a wander around the rest of the exhibits that were on display in the other rooms. Most enjoyable. Finished off the morning with cake and coffee as usual.Well worth a visit, friendly staff, good refreshments and clean restroom.

We enjoyed much of this museum, but were disappointed that they’ve given way to pressure to display inferior modern/woke displays of expression interspersed with real art. These are a distraction, and should be in the “modern art” museums as they are not remotely comparable to the masters exhibited in this museum. The gallery itself and the exhibits were excellent, however the gents toilets were down to one cubicle and the cafe had pretty much run out of everything by 13:00. Neither of these were ideal, but not enough to spoil a decent afternoon browsing an interesting and varied collection. Access is free but a donation is (quite reasonably) expected.

Despite all the scaffolding, lots of lovely art within. Optional £5 donation on entrance and you can 'rent' a locker which is really handy for shopping bags! Ladies toilets just inside main entrance door on right. A small shop and cafe behind the reception desk.We paid extra to look at the John Moore's 2023 exhibition. There's some very unusual interpretations of what is art, but each to their own!

It was great to visit this place today, again- after so many years! Spotless clean, nice and warm. Easy to spend hours room by room. The permanent gallery is a little bit old, should have some different art to display. The temporary exhibition is normally for a small amount of money also a great opportunity. Coffee shop and souvenir shop on the ground floor. Fully accessible for wheelchair users. Yea, it is a must destination. The ‘only 5 stars’ is because not well upgraded collections.

There is a good collection here, from paintings to sculptures to daily necessities, and it is free to visit. The only shortcoming is that the lighting design of the oil painting area is flawed, and the reflection makes it difficult to see the details. For example, this cat cannot be viewed from the front, only from the side, because it is highly reflective.

With a planned workshop discussing an interesting painting featuring Meleager and Atalanta. Also a big thank you to a very knowledgeable member of staff called Mo. She invited the children to hear facts about different portraits, their hidden meanings and fascinating facts. This made our trip a memorable visit. Thank you !
