A well appointed gallery with a great mix of art from pre Raphaelite to modern. One gallery has different forms of art mixed together forming a very interesting mash up of styles which works very well. Currently there is an exhibition of photography from the National Portrait Gallery which is well worth the visit alone. Also some glass and ceramics.

Have been taking my granddaughter to The Little Artists Session for the past year. It's on every Monday morning, and Steph, the lady who runs the session is amazing as she has to think of different subjects every week! It starts off with a song to introduce your child to the others, followed by a trip around the gallery, then the children get to produce their own artwork, and there's a story to end. Places are limited, with a maximum of 15 children, so booking is a must! I can only go on my experience, but we love it! If you're looking for somewhere different, to take the kids, give it a go! Ticket price is £6.47 per child for an hour.

If you want to see some oil paintings in Newcastle, this gallery is your best choice. They have two free floors and all the artwork they have is something they usually don’t change but they are not too bad. They have one room on the top floor that has seasonal art exhibits but I heard they are not worth 7 pounds. I think it depends on the exhibition. The art shop is lovely but again their products are mostly generic, but some of the art books are very cool.

I visited the Gallery as part of the gala opening evening event of the annual conference of the British museum association 2023.I should have and probably will spend there more time. It's certainly worth that investment. What I mainly learned is the very basic concept of art and genres of the "North East." Honestly, I didn't have any idea such a thing exists! Why would I?!Also, it's a very rich and generous gallery, and it's free and in an impressive building in the city center.Enjoy!!

A lovely gallery to visit with great history of the shipyard area through an exhibition of black and white photography by Chris Killip. We also visited another 2 galleries of paintings which spanned several styles including artists from the Newlyn School. The gallery is close to the Library and free to visit; contributions welcome. My favourite was probably the work by Bloch on the first floor landing. There is a lovely gift shop and also a cafe. The staff were lovely and very helpful.

The gallery featured paintings created using various mediums (such as watercolour and oil). The paintings also provided an informative depiction of Newcastle through a historical perspective. The staff were also really friendly. I enjoyed my experience and would happily go again! Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait … More

Charming collection of art from many periods but mostly the 19th and 20th centuries. Displayed well and some displays are extremely innovative and show off the painting well. Some exhibitions are charged for. Not sure how much they charge or if the charges are good value. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure … More

A lovely gallery showing everything from beautiful historical landscapes painted in classical styles, to absolute modern cr@p, saying that there's very little in the way of modern art. Overall, I give it the highest art gallery award of 3 thumbs up. Definitely go. It's free, but please make a donation ???????????? This gallery is perhaps on the small side for a city the size of Newcastle. However, it contains a well-chosen variety of works across different styles and eras. It is certainly well worth a visit, and there is a pretty good café for a welcome break. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No … More

The Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne is a fantastic place to visit! With its impressive collection of art and sculpture, including works by renowned artists like T.M. Richardson, J.W. Carmichael, and William Bell Scott, there's something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the "Newcastle in Watercolours" exhibition, which featured beautiful paintings of local landscapes. The gallery also has a lovely café and shop, making it a perfect spot for an afternoon outing. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Laing Art Gallery for art lovers of all ages! ????

Excellent gallery featuring a well curated selection of North East art from all periods. Don't miss the separate watercolours rooms which are on the upper floor via a different staircase than the one you take to get to the temporary exhibitions.Good cafe for a drink and a rest. Shop selling local artisan items and books is worth a visit also.

Newcastle has this beautiful art gallery, 10 minutes walk from the train station. This Lovely building is about to celebrate the works of J.w.Turner from the 1st of may. The gallery is displaying the "the fightingTimeraire" along with other works.Just £5 to view this famous painting. The gallery has three rooms, including the photography of the time when shipbuilding what's the dominant employer. Take an hour out, and visit this beautiful gallery, the main part of the buildings free.

Maybe I was expecting more but I went because of the Edward Burne-Jones but I got the Turner exhibition which pushed much else out. I have nothing against the Temeraire and my photo is rubbish (I blame the light) as all were, but I do find his stetches uninspirational

Went along on the 05/04/24 to see the Yevonde exhibition, it was absolutely incredible! Me and my friend met a lovely lady sitting in at the time (I believe the lady on the main reception said her name was Geraldine), and she was a pleasure to talk to! It was nice to have someone working there spend some time with us chatting about the exhibition, and we hope we run into her again at future exhibitions!
