Hungate Medieval Art is an Art gallery located in Norwich on Princes St, Norwich NR3 1AE. This gallery, also known as St Peter Hungate, is a redundant parish church that was built during the medieval times in 1460. Although it may appear abandoned with cobwebs and overgrown plants, it exudes a unique charm. Inside, you can find carvings on the walls and ancient artifacts that add to the building's intriguing atmosphere. In 1932, it was converted into a museum of ecclesiastical art but eventually closed in 1995. Today, it is looked after by the Norwich Historic Churches Trust and serves as a center for Medieval Art called 'Hungate'. Visitors describe it as a peaceful and lovely place with fascinating exhibitions. Don't miss the opportunity to explore this undiscovered gem of a museum before it closes!

It’s always closed and we took the chance to visit it once when we found it open. There were some people who seem to be manning the place. It looks like an abandoned church with random stuff in the church building, cob webs, weeds and plants growing everywhere but no less charming. There were some carvings on the walls and some really old artifacts of the wall that were not explained, and these made the building compound really quite interesting. I read that this church is called St Peter Hungate which is a redundant parish church built during the medieval times from 1460. It’s later closed and converted to a museum of ecclesiastical art in 1932. The museum is later closed in 1995 and taken care of by Norwich Historic Churches Trust, and now occupied by ‘Hungate’ a centre for Medieval Art.

Built by my family to use as their own church back in the 13th century onwards until they sold it to the Norwich Corporation in about 19.00 AD.

I didn’t take the time to get to know this building better but enjoyed the 10 minutes being nosey. Garden could do with a few seats. I loved it and could have spent more time there

We filmed there over a couple of weeks and it's a great space to work in and relax in. Thanks for letting us make our movie there!

Old church with explanations of its history...as well as to the mediaeval links...and art. Starting to look abandoned, but the garden was beautiful and the people inside friendly. Norwich itself seems to have abundance of churches!!
