Being part of the historic Old College of the University of Edinburgh, Talbot Rice Galleryprovides a stunning backdrop for medium-scale exhibitions.I like the layout and the sequence of the space that visitors would experience along the route, starting at a contemporary double-height white space lit by skylight, through several transitional area leading to the neoclassical vaulted hall. The journey itself is dramatic, and the exhibitions I saw were all benefited from the venue which has broadened the possibilities of representation.

The gallery can be scary if you visit there during weekday because no one is around and some corners in the exhibition are dark

Must have been an off day, think someone replaced the paintings with a sound and light arrangement akin to sensory deprivation during rendition. Me and me lad thought the wheelchair under the stairs was an exhibit for a while. Not too sure, definitely a place for the more intellectual pretentious as I didn't get it. On the positive it was free and broke up the journey to Gregg's.

Disabled access not considered here. A regular wheelchair user was told that they could use the stairs! A medical miracle perhaps? Use of the lift finds one exiting into an unlit area used to stage performance art quite inappropriate for disabled visitors. The final third of the exhibition could not be accessed at all due to stairs only access. The exhibits themselves were a joy and a challenge. The Tower by Jesse Jones and 45th Parallel by Abu Haman were thought provoking and perfectly presented. Contemporary issues of great importance were addressed. Please do go and raise hell if you can’t access exhibits. The Equality Act needs enforcement here!
