I've been here with friends, family and on a date. Obviously, you need to enjoy art or be open-minded to visit a gallery. Once inside Manchester Art Gallery, you will definitely find something for yourself! From classic sculptures and painting to modern pieces, ceramics, or seasonal exhibitions about music, people, clothing, etc. For a date, it's quiet enough for you not to be distracted by loud cafes and people nearby, but in busy periods there might be too many people standing next to you to ask if your date is a tory or a normal human being. When visiting with friends or families, the pressure is off, and your cousin can dig the New Order or Balenciaga exhibits!

A member of your staff, Alia, I believe, made a jaded old Manc so very happy today and I would like to highlight what a credit they are to your institution, your management and (most importantly to my mind) what our city is about. A visitor to town posted on Reddit that they were here for work but had become unwell with a migraine.Having checked-out of their hotel & rightly being 'sent home' by their colleagues, the visitor enquired on the r/Manchester sub-reddit of any suggested locations to pass the waiting time for their train whilst suffering the symptoms of migraine.Alia responded with a post of such compassion and assistance that I am moved to write this review.I will be 'phoning the gallery tomorrow to commend this ladies actions in person also

Plenty to see and do and all for free, (As all museums should be) they even had a special Golden mummies of Egypt display that you had to book a time for, but at no extra cost. Well presented displays and friendly staff, a pleasure to look around, Naturally, being Manchester you have to navigate the odd student in a drugged up haze staggering the halls like a zombie, but that's just part of the charm of a City museum. Good location, and I even found free parking on a nearby street.

This is a superb free venue right in the centre of Manchester. Whether you want to spend a whole afternoon or just have a stroll during your lunch break, this place will regenerate your soul, tickle your curiosity, and restore your confidence in the ability of the human race to create beauty. Inside the museum, created inside the brilliant Greek revival building designed by Charles Barry for the Royal Manchester Institution ( a marvel in its own right), you can find it all: from Corinthian oinochoes and Attic craters down to cutting edge pieces of design and fashion, through art collections built in the 18th and 19th century. The display is cleverly arranged to spark questions and engage the visitor, and the staff is extremely helpful, passionate, and knowledgeable (I'm looking at you, Patrick!). Just get in, folks; you really have nothing to lose.
